At RBG and through our Reyes Cares program, we are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our operations and delivery systems and their environmental impact through natural improvements, energy efficiency, biodiesel, fleet electrification and renewable energy.
Our Science-Based Target: By 2030, we will reduce our carbon emissions by 60% and achieve zero waste to landfill.
As part of this commitment, we are excited to share that 20 zero-emission, battery-electric Freightliner eCascadia Class 8 tractors have joined our California fleet of vehicles located at our Golden Brands – East Bay and Harbor Distributing – Huntington Beach warehouses, with nine more vehicles expected later this year at our Gate City Beverage – San Bernardino warehouse.
In addition to our expansion of renewable diesel earlier this year and our ongoing idle-time reduction program, the rollout of these new Freightliner eCascadias is a significant leap toward our sustainability efforts and is expected to save over 98,000 gallons of diesel fuel and avoid nearly 700 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
These electric vehicles, received from Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA), are the first of many to transition the 1,000+ RBG tractors and service vehicles in California to a zero-emission fleet between 2035 and 2039.
The Freightliner eCascadia is built with maximum productivity in mind for fleets switching to efficient, zero-emission vehicles. The eCascadia comes with different battery and drive axle options, offering ranges of 155, 220 or 230 miles. These options are perfect for short and regional routes with depot-based charging, including tasks like last-mile delivery, local and regional distribution, port transport and warehouse-to-warehouse operations. The Detroit ePowertrain, developed and integrated in-house, focuses on power, efficiency and reliability. For enhanced road safety, the Freightliner eCascadia comes with Detroit Assurance safety systems, such as Active Brake Assist 5, as standard features.
These Freightliner eCascadia tractors will be charged exclusively at electric commercial charging stations located on-site at our facilities. Recharging takes as little as 90 minutes to 2 hours to reach 80% capacity, fostering enhanced efficiency, with a typical driving range of approximately 220 miles for tandem drive-equipped eCascadias. These charging systems, designed and engineered by Pave Power, RBG’s partner in energy and EV infrastructure development, can also increase charging speeds to meet growing energy needs down the line, futureproofing the sites for additional electric vehicle rollouts.
To complement the charging stations, RBG is also leveraging the Detroit Charger Management System, a powerful software solution that provides a comprehensive view of our electric fleet and energy metering at each depot to enable efficient energy management, ultimately reducing the cost to charge. Working closely with Detroit eConsulting (a team of eMobility experts dedicated to every step of the electric tractor conversion process), RBG is ensuring the best possible site design and seamless integration of the EV tractors into our operations.
